Thanksgiving Turkey Place Mats & Napkins – Quiltfest Virtual Schoolhouse #9 – November 8, 2024

In this class you will learn how to embroider napkins and placemats. We will discuss how to “float” items in your hoop and other hooping techniques. You will also learn how to applique an embroidery design and properly use metallic thread. There will be 2 Thanksgiving designs: one napkin and one placemat. *We will only sew out one napkin and one placemat in class. You do not need to have a full set of 4.

{You need to know the basics on how to operate your machine for embroidery such as turning on your machine, threading the machine, winding & loading bobbin. Make sure to have your user manual.}

Preferred hoop size: 4” x 4” and larger (preferred)

Materials Needed by Student:

Embroidery machine with embroidery attachment arm and embroidery foot.
**Preferred hoop size: 5″x7″ or larger (*4”x4” is acceptable; projects will be smaller).

• USB Stick
• Fabric Scissors
• Applique Scissors
• 75/11 needles
• White– 60 wt bobbin thread

40 wt embroidery threads:

• Gold metallic
• Black
• White
• Beige
• Yellow
• Orange
• Red
• *Bring 2-3 Brown colors from light to dark ranges (for turkey)
• *Please feel free to bring more colors if you want to swap colors in the design.

• 1 yd Sulky Sticky Tear Away Stabilizer
• 1 piece – 10” x 10” brown canvas or felt (for turkey applique)
• 1 Placemat
• 1 Napkin
