My Peter Pan book sculpture was one of the 23 finalists selected for the D23 Expo 2017! The piece is made entirely out of book pages. Careful attention was paid to when selecting each book page to create every character and object. I depicted scenes from the story, such as: the Mermaids’ Lagoon, Mr. Smee rowing Tiger Lily to Skull Rock, Big Ben clock tower, Captain Hook battling Tick Tock, and centrally located, the Jolly Roger, which includes Mr. Smee forcing Wendy to walk the plank, Michael and John tied to the mast, and lastly, Peter Pan and Captain Hook dueling it out.
This year’s D23 Expo Design Challenge celebrates 50 years of Pirates of the Caribbean. Arrrrrrtists were encouraged to base their work on the beloved theme park attraction or any of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, as well as other marauders from Disney’s treasure trove of cads including those from Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates. The 23 pieces of finalist artwork will be on display throughout the D23 Expo weekend on the show floor.
